Application for a licence to practise dentistry pursuant to § 2 of the German Act on the Practice of Dentistry (Gesetz über die Ausübung der Zahnheilkunde/ZHG)
As a rule, the prerequisite for practising dentistry is the possession of a corresponding licence to practise dentistry or a permit to practise dentistry on a temporary basis. In Saxony, the application is made at the state directorate (Landesdirektion).

For this procedure, you can use the service of the Single Point of Contact (Einheitlicher Ansprechpartner). They will guide you through the administrative procedure, take care of correspondence with all the offices responsible for your request and will be available to you as a competent advisor.

Expenses
- 1. up to 50 copies: EUR 0.50 per sheet, from 51 copies EUR 0.15 per sheet
- Authentication of licence to practise or professional licence certificates: EUR 5.00 for one copy, reduction of up to half for each additional copy possible
Submit your application for licensure in writing on the prescribed form.
- The authority will confirm receipt of the application and inform you of any documents that may still be missing.
- Submit the application documents to the competent authority.
- If the examination is positive, the licence to practise medicine will be issued and handed over to you against acknowledgement of receipt or sent to you by post.
- Application processing: up to 3 months after complete submission of the application documents
- Examination of substantial differences ("equivalence examination") for applicants from third countries:
generally up to 4 months after submission of the complete documents and expert opinions
Note: Especially if an expert is consulted, the processing time may be considerably longer.
- Acknowledgement of receipt: 1 month
- Notification: within 3 months
after submission of the complete, verifiable application documents
Exercise of the profession in the case of foreign nationality
Nationals of another EU member state or another EEA contracting state may practise the profession of dentistry using the corresponding professional title without a licence to practise or without a permit to practise temporarily if they provide their professional activity as a temporary and occasional service within the meaning of Article 50 of the EC Treaty (EG-Vertrag). However, they are subject to the obligation to register and to verification.
The same applies to third-country nationals if their training has been recognised as equivalent by the competent authority.
