Obligations to notify, report and provide information on occupational diseases in accordance with SGB VII
Both doctors and employers are obliged to report the suspected existence of an occupational disease to the accident insurance institution.
The health insurance funds should also inform the accident insurance institution accordingly. In addition, those affected can also report their illness to their employer's liability insurance association or accident insurance fund themselves.
- An indication that the company's employee may be suffering from an occupational disease or
- a medically substantiated suspicion of the existence of an occupational disease
Attention! The obligation to notify exists if even the possibility of a connection between the occurrence of the illness and certain substances or effects is to be considered.
Notify the competent accident insurance institution (competent body) of the suspected existence of an occupational disease using the appropriate form. Employers and insured persons can also submit the notification online via the service portal of the German Social Accident Insurance. (Link see -> Online application).
Written notification
Notification by the company
- Fill in the form with the required information and follow the explanations in the information sheet.
- Have the notification co-signed by the works council / staff council.
- One copy each remains with the Staff Council and the company for documentation purposes.
Inform the person concerned of the notification and of their right to receive a copy. The occupational safety specialist and the company doctor must also be informed.
Notification by a doctor
- Fill in the form with the required information and note the explanations in the information sheet.
- You will keep one copy for documentation purposes.
- Even without the consent of the sick person, you are obliged to report the justified suspicion of an occupational disease according to the BK list.
Online notification (company)

- Log in via the user account (federal government) or My company account. Alternatively, you can choose to create and submit the online form without logging in.
- In the second step, select the employers' liability insurance association responsible for your sector.
- Create the notification using the electronic assistant.
You can also inform the state authority responsible for occupational health and safety about the suspected existence of an occupational disease.
The German Social Accident Insurance has created a digital tool for doctors to identify a suspected occupational disease.
