The processing time for issuing a new identity card is two to six weeks. You can check the processing status at any time by telephone, in person or, in many cases, by e-mail.

Some authorities offer you the opportunity to find out on the Internet whether the new identity card has already arrived and can be collected.

You should have the number of the ID card you applied for (on the payment receipt you received when you applied) to hand for a status enquiry. In some cases, a PIN will also be assigned, which must be entered when requesting the status.
