The trade register is a list kept by the municipal authorities of commercial businesses registered in the municipality in accordance with Section 14 of the Trade, Commerce, and Industry Regulation Act (GewO). Public authorities and private individuals can obtain an extract from the trade register on request.
Note: The information provides data on business registration or re-registration. They are not checked for accuracy or completeness by the competent authority.
The following documents are required for information that goes beyond the basic data:
- Proof of legal interest (e.g. invoices, payment requests, copies of contracts)
You can obtain information on the trader's basic data (name, business address, registered activity) without any special justification. For extended trade register information that goes beyond this, you must provide evidence of a legal interest (e.g. assertion of claims) and the legitimate interest of the trader must not outweigh this.
Note: The trade register is not a public register such as the commercial register, register of co-operatives or register of associations. You therefore have no legal right to be informed of the data. It is at the discretion of the competent authority whether to provide you with the information.
- simple register information on a commercial enterprise: EUR 12,00, in the case of collective information each additional item of information EUR 3,00
- extended register information on a commercial enterprise: EUR 28,00 in the case of collective information each additional item of information EUR 3,00
You can apply for information from the trade register in person, in writing or electronically.
- You can obtain the form "Application for trade register information" from the competent authority. Depending on the service provided by the authority, you can also download the form from the Internet ("Forms & online services")
- The competent authority will check your application for completeness and whether you have a legal interest in obtaining information from the trade register.
- If your application is approved, the extract from the trade register and a fee notice will be sent to you by post or fax.
Note: In particularly urgent cases, you may receive the extract from the trade register in advance by fax.
