Reports of livestock kills, dead, injured or conspicuous wolves as well as general information about wolves (sightings, tracks, droppings) are accepted by the "Fachstelle Wolf" at the Landesamt für Umwelt, Landwirtschaft und Geologie in the Free State of Saxony.
If farm animals have been killed, an expert will arrange an appointment with you in good time for a joint assessment. At the appointment, you will also receive information on herd protection and damage compensation, among other things.
- Evidence of livestock being killed by wolves
- Dead or injured wolves
- Conspicuous situations
- Sighting, tracks or droppings of wolves
Reporting Livestock Damage Caused by Wolves
- If you have found dead or injured animals when checking your livestock and suspect a wolf attack, please report the damage immediately (within 24 hours) to the "Wolf Specialist Centre" via the hotline.
- An expert will promptly arrange an appointment with you for a joint assessment.
Loss Compensation
Applications for compensation for the loss of livestock are accepted by the upper nature conservation authority at the Landesdirektion Sachsen.
The following conditions must be met before a claim for compensation can be made:
- a crack assessment is carried out promptly by the Specialist Wolf Unit
- the wolf is identified with sufficient certainty as the cause of the damage during the crack assessment
- For keepers of sheep, goats and game in enclosures, the minimum protection criteria must have been met.
Communicate General Wolf Information
You should also report dead, injured or conspicuous wolves promptly via the hotline. General wolf information can be submitted to the specialist centre by telephone, e-mail or online form; log sheets are available for download to document repeated wolf observations.
