If you would like to have your child looked after in an after-school care centre outside of school hours, you can apply for this directly at the facility.
Childcare can be organised in different ways. Either the after-school care centre is located directly in the school or the childcare is provided in a separate facility in the immediate vicinity of the school. This may be purely after-school care or after-school groups may be offered within a day-care centre. You can apply for an after-school care place directly at the after-school care centre or at the day care centre. The provider of the centre can be either a public or an independent provider.
Contact point
A centre of your choice
- The day-care centre provider decides on admission.
- physical and mental health
- in some local authorities, full-day care requires proof that both parents are in employment or training or that there is a special need for help in the family
The parental contributions are set by the municipality in consultation with the public youth welfare organisation. Reductions are provided for single parents and parents with several children.
- The parental contribution for the after-school care centre amounts to a maximum of 30% of the personnel and material costs
- The exact amount is determined by the municipal or city council.
Municipal facilities
- Look for a suitable day-care centre that offers after-school care. In larger towns and municipalities, you can obtain a free overview from the town hall.
- Ask locally whether the centre is suitable for your child.
- Have your child medically examined before the start of childcare to prove that there are no health-related concerns about attending the centre.
- The management of the childcare centre will require proof of the medical examination and proof of vaccination from you.
- Before admission to a childcare centre, the provider concludes a childcare contract with the parents. It contains legal agreements and regulates in particular the daily care duration.
Please note: If your child has already attended the centre as a kindergarten child, you do not need to submit proof of the medical examination again.
Centres run by independent providers and private operators
Enquire about the registration formalities directly with the independent provider or the operator of the after-school care centre.
- Your child must be enrolled in after-school care before starting school.
- The childcare contract ends automatically as soon as your child has completed the fourth grade (sixth grade in the after-school care centre at the special school).
