This programme, launched by the European Commission as part of the European Solidarity Corps, is designed to encourage young people to get involved in a social, environmental or cultural institution in another European country. It is a programme that focuses on intercultural learning and the shaping of Europe.
The participants help to initiate projects that fulfil social needs and enrich these projects with their motivation. Volunteers receive educational support before, during and after their service.
As a rule, an EVS lasts between two and twelve months. Shorter projects of two weeks or less are possible under certain conditions.
Participation in an EVS project is free of charge for participants (only travel costs may be subsidised). This also includes pocket money, costs for accommodation and meals as well as insurance and a language course.
As there are no uniform requirements, the necessary documents for an application must be obtained from the respective organisations.
The EVS is aimed at all young people between the ages of 17 and 30. Due to the programme's integrative approach, young people with special needs or people with disabilities are a priority target group. No specific educational qualifications or language skills are required.
The EVS is based on a solid partnership between the volunteers, a sending organisation and a host organisation.
Each sending organisation regulates the admission procedure itself, so there is no standardised procedure.
- It is therefore recommended that you contact the relevant individual organisations at an early stage to find out more about the possible projects and the requirements for an application.
