Particularly in larger cities, parking in some residential areas is only permitted permanently or at certain times with a special permit, the resident parking permit. This system favours residents over other drivers when it comes to the allocation of parking spaces. However, the resident parking permit does not guarantee a parking space.

Note: Disabled parking bays are exempted from the resident parking regulation.

• Driver's licence
• Registration certificate part I (vehicle registration document)
• Valid identity card or passport with current confirmation of registration
• If applicable, confirmation from the vehicle owner if the application is not made by this person

• You must be registered as a resident in the resident parking area and actually live there.
• The vehicle must be registered in your name or be used by you on a permanent basis.
• If you are using a vehicle that is not registered in your name, a confirmation from the vehicle owner is required stating that the vehicle has been given to you for permanent use.

The municipal or local authorities may make the issue of the licence dependent on further requirements (e.g. main residence, lack of garage). If in doubt, you should therefore check the local requirements with the relevant authority.

If you apply in writing or electronically, you will receive your parking permit by post. If you choose one of these methods, first enquire at your local authority which documents need to be sent.
