Small craft whose hull, excluding rudder and bowsprit, has a maximum length of less than 20 m and is equipped with a propulsion engine whose net power is equal to or more than 2.21 kW require an official or officially recognised licence plate.

The issuing body must be informed immediately of any changes to a licence plate for a small vehicle that has already been issued. The licence plate must be presented for correction, in particular in the event of a change of ownership, change of residence, changes of a technical nature (e.g. change of engine), allocation of a new licence plate or deregistration.

• Identity card/passport (copy)
• Invoices/purchase contracts or written declaration from the owner for small vehicle (boat) and engine(s) (copy)
• Declaration of conformity (copy)

Note: In the case of a self-construction, at least one photo must be submitted. The submission of further documents, in particular further photos or construction drawings, may be requested.

As the owner of the boat or small vehicle, you submit the application for the allocation/change of an official licence plate.

• You can obtain the prescribed application form here via Amt24 (see -> Forms and other offers).
• The competent authority (see -> Competent authority) will allocate the licence plate number and issue you with an ID card for the allocated licence plate number.
