Application for a grant to organise and support a voluntary social year (FSJ) and a voluntary ecological year (FÖJ) - RL-FwD of the Free State of Saxony and RL JFD of the Federal Government
Young people need prospects. Social and ecological organisations can broaden the horizons of young adults in a meaningful and effective way. Sponsoring organisations are funded by the Free State of Saxony; applications are submitted via the Kommunaler Sozialverband Sachsen (KSV).
Conditions
funding for a Voluntary Social Year (FSJ)

- for volunteers in Germany up to EUR 150.00 per month
- for volunteers abroad up to EUR 200.00 per month
- for young people with special educational or care needs up to EUR 400.00 per month
Funding for the FSJ is provided by the Kommunaler Sozialverband Sachsen (KSV).
Funding for a Voluntary Ecological Year (FÖJ)
Type of funding:

Duration:
usually up to 12 months
Amount:
in accordance with the RL-FwD of the Free State of Saxony:
- up to EUR 663.30 per volunteer per month and
- for young people with special educational or care needs: up to EUR 699.30 per month
in accordance with the federal funding guidelines for youth volunteer services (RL-FJD):
- up to EUR 200.00 per volunteer per month
The federal grant reduces the state grant by the relevant amount.
Please note: There is no legal entitlement to this funding.
Voluntary Social Year (FSJ)

Voluntary Ecological Year (FÖJ)
Further documents to be submitted:
- forms S, A1 and A2 of the RL-JFD of the Federal Government
- content application form
- proof of qualification of the educational staff
- calculation of personnel expenses
- current association documents
- after the end of the FÖJ: Proof of use of funds (documents to be attached according to the grant notification)
for providers of a Voluntary Social Year (FSJ)
(not exhaustive)
- approval as a sponsoring organisation
- compliance with the provisions of the Act on the Promotion of Youth Volunteer Services (JFDG)
- compliance with all standards of the Youth Volunteer Services Funding Guideline (RL-FwD):
- carrying out the service with at least 16 volunteers
- deployment in organisations oriented towards the common good
- volunteers receive educational support from specialised staff. The staffing ratio is 1 full-time employee for 40 participants.
- The specialists organise seminars for the volunteers.
- During the year, the educational specialist visits each volunteer at least once at the respective placement centre.
- Volunteers receive a monthly pocket money of at least EUR 150.00 (if without free board and lodging: at least EUR 300.00).
- Volunteers are adequately insured
- the financing of the FSJ must be fully secured.
An FSJ is only funded if the volunteer is deployed in a labour market-neutral way, i.e. as a supporting, additional auxiliary worker.
For providers of a Voluntary Ecological Year (FÖJ)
- authorisation as an FÖJ provider
- compliance with the provisions of the Act on the Promotion of Youth Volunteer Services (JFDG)
- compliance with all standards of the Youth Volunteer Services Funding Directive (RL-FwD):
- carrying out the service with at least 16 volunteers
- deployment in recognised places of assignment
- volunteers receive educational support from specialised staff (staffing ratio: 1 full-time employee for 35-40 participants).
- The specialists organise seminars for the volunteers.
- During the year, the educational specialist visits each volunteer at least once at the respective placement centre.
- Volunteers receive a monthly pocket money of at least EUR 150.00 (if without free board and lodging: at least EUR 300.00).
- Volunteers are adequately insured
- the financing of the FÖJ must be fully secured.
- As a rule, at least 10 per cent of the eligible expenditure must be financed from own funds or from own and third-party funds.
- Further funding for the FÖJ projects is provided by federal funds from the RL JFD. The federal funding reduces the state funding.
- An FÖJ is only funded if the volunteer is deployed in a labour market-neutral manner, i.e. as a supporting, additional auxiliary worker.

Please note that the amount of funding does not compensate for the running costs of the organisations running the FSJ or FÖJ.
You must apply for funding in writing. Please use the forms provided by the Free State of Saxony and the Federal Government (Forms & Online Services) to submit your application and record the necessary data.
- Submit your application with the required documents to the responsible office.
- After reviewing your application, the Saxony Municipal Social Association will make a decision and you will receive a written notification.
- After completing the FSJ or FÖJ, you must submit a proof of utilisation.
Application deadline
- voluntary Social Year (FSJ): by 31 March for the following FSJ
- voluntary Ecological Year (FÖJ): by 15 February for the following FÖJ
