Sächsisches Gesetz zur Förderung von Kindern in Kindertageseinrichtungen und in Kindertagespflege (Gesetz über Kindertagesbetreuung – SächsKitaG)

Many municipalities offer parents whose baby or toddler is to be looked after care by a day carer (childminder) as an alternative to a place in a crèche. If there is a special need or as a supplement, this can also be provided for older children.

The childminder requires a care licence. This licence gives parents the assurance that the childminder and their home environment have been checked for suitability to take in daycare children and are suitable.

Note: You can also look for a carer without a local authority placement. However, the local authority will only contribute to the costs if the childminder has an official care licence and the daycare centre is included in the so-called demand plan.

• Proof of medical examination and proof of immunisation

Parental contribution - the exact amount is determined by the municipal or city council.

Referral by the local youth welfare organisation

• Ask the local authority or the local youth welfare organisation (youth welfare office) to recommend a childminder.
• Introduce yourself and your child to the childminder and make sure that the type of childcare meets your expectations.
• If there is mutual agreement, you will conclude a childcare contract with the childminder. It contains legal agreements and regulates, among other things, the daily childcare hours.
• Some childminders also accept babies after the end of the maternity protection period (children aged eight weeks and over); registration is then by arrangement.
• Have your child medically examined before starting childcare.
• The carer requires a care licence.

Registration at short notice is possible if a place is available. Registration before the birth is not possible.
