If you are looking for information on corporations (such as GmbH, AG, KGaA), partnerships (such as OHG, KG) or sole traders (e. K.), you can consult the commercial register. You will also find small traders in the commercial register who have had the registration made voluntarily.

The register provides information on facts and legal relationships that are of importance for legal transactions in connection with companies registered there. For example, the commercial register contains the names of persons who are authorised to represent a company in business dealings.

Joint register portal of the Länder

Since 01.01.2007, the commercial register has been kept exclusively electronically. Data from the following public registers are available on the joint internet portal of the German register courts

• Commercial register
• Register of Cooperatives
• Partnership register
• Register of associations (in part)

Note: Registers of associations that are not yet kept electronically can be viewed directly at the competent local court. Upon request, you will receive a copy of the register of associations by post.

Searches for individual companies as well as company data and the retrieval of publications in the register portal are free of charge.

Company register

Consultation of the commercial register is also possible via the business register, which was introduced on 01.01.2007. In addition to the data from the commercial register, further information such as annual financial statements and management reports of corporations or company announcements are published in the business register.

• The following documents can be accessed free of charge as of 01.08.2022:
  • Current imprint (AD)
  • Chronological imprint (CD)
  • Historical imprint (HD)
  • Document (DK)
  • Company carrier data (UT)
  • Structured register content (SI)
• Deposited annual accounts documents and certifications remain subject to charges
  • Deposited annual financial statement documents: EUR 1.00 plus VAT.
  • Certification of annual accounts: EUR 0.50 for each page or part thereof, minimum EUR 5.00 plus VAT.

The register portal is available on the Internet for inspection of the commercial register.

• In the register portal, you can enter keywords to search specifically for registered companies and sole proprietorships.
• The contents of the register can also be accessed online as a PDF document. Registration will no longer be required as of 01.08.2022.

Inspection at the register court

You can continue to inspect the commercial register during business hours at the registry court and have a printout or copy made there.

Documents not available on the internet

Documents from the commercial register that are up to ten years old and cannot be accessed on the internet portal can be delivered online upon request to your competent register court. This service is subject to a fee.
