  • Substitute schools providing general education must have been in operation for at least three years without interruption in order to be recognised.
  • An exception applies to vocational substitute schools with one or two-year courses of education. These alternative schools can be recognised if a class of pupils has completed the course of education and at least 80 per cent of the pupils admitted to the examination have passed the final examination for non-school pupils.
  • A further exception applies to alternative schools that are run as vocational schools; these can be recognised at the earliest six months before the end of the training and examination period specified in the training and examination regulations for the respective course of education.
  • For secondary schools and community schools that emerge from existing and already recognised schools through a change of school type, there is the possibility of maintaining the existing recognition even after a change of school type for the corresponding school level.
