At what time, on which days retail companies can open or must remain closed, is regulated by the Shop Opening Hours Act.
In Saxony-Anhalt, as a shop owner, you are allowed to open your shop for sale Monday to Friday from 0 to 24 o'clock and on Saturdays from 0 to 20 o'clock. On Sundays and public holidays, an opening of the shop is generally not permitted. But there are exceptions.
On Sundays and public holidays, for example,
- bakery or confectionery products from bakeries and pastry shops,
- Flowers from flower shops, as well as
- Newspapers and magazines of kiosks
are offered for sale for a period of five consecutive hours after the decision of the traders, on Christmas Eve until 2 p.m. at the latest.
Likewise, on Sundays and public holidays in recognized spa and recreation resorts as well as excursion destinations with particularly strong tourism may be open for the sale of travel supplies and goods that characterize the character of the place.
Hint:
On a maximum of four Sundays and public holidays a year, the municipality may allow sales outlets to be opened on request for special occasions.
The decision on the opening hours on Sundays and public holidays by bakers, flower shops or in spa and recreation resorts must be communicated to the municipality by the traders.
In principle, the districts, the district-free cities as well as the cities and municipalities are responsible for the enforcement of the Shop Opening Hours Act, which also includes the admission of further opening hours.
In addition, the "Occupational Safety" department of the State Office for Consumer Protection of the State of Saxony-Anhalt is available for information, in particular if the protection of working hours of employees is affected.
The technical supervision lies with the State Administration Office, Department of Economics.
