If you are blind or severely visually impaired, you can be granted a blind person's allowance. It is intended to compensate for your additional expenses due to your disability.
The full allowance for the blind is 424.44 euros per month for adults and 294.76 euros per month for minors.
The severely visually impaired receive 61.30 euros per month.
Benefits under the State Blindness Benefit Act are independent of income and assets.However, some care insurance benefits are offset against the allowance for the blind.For example, if you receive cash benefits or benefits in kind for home care or for partial or full inpatient care, you will receive a reduced allowance for the blind.
The amounts are as follows:
- Care level 2: Adults: 279.08 euros | Minors: 149.40 euros
- Care level 3-5: Adults: 244.59 euros | Minors: 114.91 euros
- Home - own contribution to home costs more than 50%:Adults: 424.44 euros | Minors: 294.76 euros
- Home - own contribution to home costs less than50%: Adults: 212.22 euros | Minors: 147.38 euros
The same applies if you are deaf. The deaf allowance in Saxony-Anhalt is 61.30 euros. Unlike the allowance for the blind, the allowance for the deaf is always paid in this amount.

You are entitled to blindness benefit if
- your visual acuity is not more than 1/50 in either eye, even when tested with both eyes,
- you are severely visually impaired with a visual acuity of no more than 1/20 in either eye, even when tested with both eyes.
You receive deafness benefit
- with congenital deafness or deafness acquired up to the age of 7
- Or deafness bordering on deafness, provided the degree of disability due to severe speech acquisition disorders is 100,
- with deafness acquired later, if the degree of disability is 100 solely as a result of deafness and severe speech impairment associated with deafness.
Benefits according to the Landesblinden- und Gehörlosengeldgesetz are granted on application. It is paid from the month in which the requirements and your application are met.
In contrast to the allowance for the blind, assistance for the blind is a federal benefit. It can be granted in addition to the allowance for the blind. You can find out which requirements must be met from your local social welfare office.
If you are blind or severely visually impaired, you can apply for a blind person's allowance to compensate for additional expenses if you live in the state of Saxony-Anhalt.
