The Administrative Rehabilitation Act (VwRehaG) offers victims of administrative arbitrariness and administrative injustice in the former GDR and the Occupational Rehabilitation Act (BerRehaG) offers victims of political persecution in their professional lives a way of freeing themselves from the stigma of personal discrimination and claiming social compensation benefits.
Depending on the individual case, different documents may be helpful to prove the political persecution suffered. This can only be specifically clarified in the proceedings (e.g. social security card in the case of professional disadvantages, land register extracts in the case of financial losses, medical documents in the case of health damage).
Affected persons who themselves supported the GDR regime (or the Nazi regime), e.g. in leading positions or as informal employees, are generally excluded from rehabilitation.
