You must have the necessary specialist knowledge for certain activities in connection with ionizing radiation (e.g. handling radioactive substances, operating X-ray equipment). This must be checked and certified by the competent authority.

If you intend to operate X-ray equipment or handle radioactive substances, a certificate of competence from the competent authority is required.

• Proof of suitable training for the respective area of application

• Proof of practical experience (certificate of competence)

• Proof of successful participation in recognized courses (must not date back more than five years).

• You must have successfully completed a course to acquire the required specialist knowledge.

• You must be able to provide written or digital proof of the required practical experience.

• Once you have successfully completed a recognized course to acquire specialist knowledge, you can informally apply to the competent authority for a certificate of the required specialist knowledge.

• It is also possible for the competent authority to approach you and ask you to submit proof of the required specialist knowledge.

• The authority will check your documents and the requirements and will send you the certificate of the required specialist knowledge if the check is positive.

Please note that you must update your specialist knowledge after five years at the latest.

If the authority does not grant the specialist knowledge or does not grant it in accordance with the application, you can take legal action.
