If you wish to carry out blasting work, you must register this with the competent authority. You can find out more here.

As the person responsible for blasting with explosive substances, you must report the blasting to your local authority.

Blasting with explosive substances can be the blasting of a building or chimney or blasting during construction work.

You must also report any changes to the contents of the notification or the documents after the notification has been made.

You are obliged to notify as the holder of

• the permit to handle and/or transport explosive substances or
• the certificate of competence for the handling and/or transportation of explosive substances.

Blasting in approved facilities (e.g. in quarries) is exempt from the obligation to notify.

In the notification you list:

• The location, date and time of the blasting (in the case of several blasts, the period during which they are to be carried out),
• the name and address of the persons responsible for the blasting and
• the number, date and issuing authority of the valid permit under the Explosives Act and the valid certificate of competence under the Explosives Act.

In addition, please provide the following information or documents:

• Description of the blasting work according to
  • Type, method and scope of the blasting
• technical blasting data, such as
  • Type and maximum quantity of explosives and detonating agents to be used per blast
• Distance of the blasting sites from buildings and facilities requiring special protection within a radius of at least 1000 meters, in particular from
  • Hospitals, schools, old people's and children's homes, sports facilities and playgrounds
• Safety measures, in particular
  • Cover rooms for employees, barriers along traffic routes and precautions to protect neighboring residential and working areas against flying stones, vibrations, blasting fumes and noise
• Scaled site plan (cordon plan) or documents with information on the distance of the blasting sites from traffic routes, residential and workplaces and public supply facilities within a radius of at least 300 meters
• if required:
  • Calculation and planning documents
  • Expert opinion

To be able to submit this notification, you must be the holder of a permit in accordance with the Explosives Act .

The obligation to notify exists for the blasting of buildings or parts of buildings or for general blasting work for blasting during construction work (without blasting buildings or parts of buildings).

You can submit your notification in writing or electronically.

Once you have submitted the application and all documents are complete, the competent authority will check whether all requirements for notification have been met.

If all documents are complete, you have fulfilled your obligation to notify in accordance with the Explosives Ordinance.

You may only carry out the blasting once you have fulfilled the obligation to notify.

The notification must

• at least four weeks before the start of blasting if several blasts of the same type are to be carried out, and
• at least one week before any other blasting (single blasting).

In addition,any change to an already notified bl asting mustbe notified immediately .

If changes to the content of the notification occur after the notification has been submitted, a notification of change is also required in duplicate. Untimely, incomplete or incorrect notifications are an offense within the meaning of the Explosives Act.
