- that it is not occupied by anyone,
- there is no tenancy agreement for it and
- no person is registered at the residents' registration office.
You must pay the license fee for three months at a time. The Beitragsservice collects it in the middle of a three-month period.
You must register your home with the relevant authority. You can do this
- informally in writing,
- fill out a form or
- use an online service.
The form is usually available in the municipalities. You can also download it from the Internet.
Note: If you have previously paid broadcasting fees, these will automatically be converted to the broadcasting fee. You will usually receive a letter from the Beitragsservice.
Tip: If you are no longer required to pay the fee, for example because another resident in the apartment is already paying the fee, you can deregister with the Beitragsservice.
The obligation to pay contributions begins on the first of the month in which you first occupy an apartment. This means that you

The broadcasting contribution replaced the broadcasting fee on January 1, 2013.
