If you want to gain access to the telematics infrastructure (TI) in healthcare, you need an electronic health professional card (eHBA) as a person in a healthcare profession.
The electronic health professional card (eHBA) is a chip card for the personal authentication of persons in health professions. The eHBA gives you access to the Telematics Infrastructure (TI). The TI networks all those involved in the healthcare system and thus enables access to the electronic patient record (EHR), for example, in the future.
There are different eHBAs for different professional groups. There is an eHBA for:
- Doctors
- Persons in health care professions
- Pharmacists
With this online service, you apply for an eHBA as a non-licensed person in a healthcare profession. These include:
- Health workers
- Nurses
- Geriatric nurses
- Midwives
- Physiotherapists
To obtain the eHBA, you must first register in the Electronic Health Professions Register (eGBR). You then apply for the eHBA from a trust service provider (VDA). The VDA charges an annual fee, which may vary from VDA to VDA.

- After completion of the exam, you will receive an email with the results of the check and your transaction number.
