The application possibilities of drones are manifold. If you also want to fly over geographical areas during operation, you may need to apply for a permit.
Drones are unmanned aerial vehicles that, together with remote control, form an "Unmanned Aircraft System" (UAS). They offer you a variety of applications, such as in the field of photography and videography, in the rescue of fawns or the measurement of areas.
When operating a drone, you may also want to fly over geographical areas for which you need permission. A geographical (UAS) area is a part of airspace defined by the competent aviation authority that allows, restricts or excludes UAS operations. This is intended to avoid risks for
- public security,
- the protection of privacy and personal data, or
- the environment.
Nationwide geographic (UAS) areas are, for example,
- Federal trunk roads,
- Federal waterways or
- Residential plots.
You want to fly over a geographical (UAS) area, but cannot obtain the consent of the operator or the competent authority? For example, do you want to operate your aircraft near airports or over residential properties without consent and at a height of less than 100 meters?
If there is a legitimate interest in this, you can obtain permission to fly in geographical (UAS) areas from the responsible state aviation authority.
