If the validity of your driving license is about to expire or has expired, you must apply for a new driving license.

Driving licenses issued from 19.01.2013 are valid for 15 years.

If the validity of the driving license is about to expire or has expired, you must apply for a new driving license, unless you renounce the driving license.

However, the time limit only affects the driving license document, not the underlying driving license.

• Identity card or passport, if necessary with confirmation of registration
• a current biometric photo (size 45 x 35 mm, portrait format, front view); information and examples can be found in the photo sample table of the Bundesdruckerei (Federal Printing Office)
• Driving license

• You are resident in Germany.
• You must be the holder of a temporary driving license issued from 19.01.2013.

Please remember to apply for your driver's license in good time before it expires.
