Children or adolescents in foster families or in inpatient facilities of children and youth welfare are entitled to health assistance.
For
- children, adolescents and young adults who are accommodated outside the family as part of child and youth welfare,
as well as for
- Mothers or fathers who alone care for a child under the age of six
Sickness assistance - comparable to the benefits of the statutory health insurance - applies if there is no other health insurance cover or if this does not fully cover the necessary needs. This means that if these children, adolescents or young adults become ill, the responsible youth welfare office ensures that the costs are covered
Children, adolescents and young adults who
- living in a foster family
- live in an inpatient facility of child and youth welfare ("children's home")
- in an intensive socio-pedagogical individual care are
- live as a mentally handicapped child or adolescent in a foster family or in an inpatient child and youth welfare institution
- have been taken into care by the Youth Welfare Office (also provisionally)
- are accommodated in a socio-pedagogically accompanied form of housing during participation in school or vocational training measures or during vocational integration
Mothers or fathers who
- have to care for a child under the age of six alone and live with the child in a common form of housing for mothers/fathers/children, and
Children who
- live together with their mother or father in a common form of housing for mothers/fathers and their children
- A separate application is not required. In order to check the claim, the Youth Welfare Office requests the necessary documents.
Health care can be obtained
- Children, adolescents or young adults who live in a foster family or in an inpatient child and youth welfare institution ("children's home").
- Children and young people who have been taken into care by the Youth Welfare Office (provisionally),
- young people who live in a form of housing accompanied by socio-pedagogical supervision during their participation in school or vocational training or during vocational integration.
- Mothers or fathers who alone care for a child under the age of six and live with the child in a common form of housing for mothers/fathers/children
- Children who live with their mother or father in a common form of housing for mothers/fathers and children
Important is:
- Health assistance is only granted if there is no other health insurance cover or if it does not fully cover the necessary needs.
- The person entitled to custody or the child or the adolescent or the young adult are entitled.
- The responsible youth welfare office checks whether health insurance cover exists elsewhere, for example through family insurance or voluntary continued insurance.
- If there is no priority option of health care or health insurance, the Youth Welfare Office ensures health care (for example, by registering with a statutory health insurance company).
