Would you like to work permanently in Germany as a curative educator? Then you must have your foreign professional qualification recognized.

The profession of remedial teacher is regulated in Germany. This means that you must have a specific qualification in order to work in the profession. If you have a foreign professional qualification as a curative education teacher, you can work in this profession in your chosen federal state under certain conditions.

To do this, you must submit an application with all the necessary documents to the relevant state authority.

In the recognition procedure, the competent authority compares your professional qualification from abroad with the professional qualification in the selected federal state and makes an equivalence assessment.

In addition to the equivalence, the competent authority also checks the other requirements.

You will receive feedback after your application has been reviewed.

If your professional qualification is equivalent and you meet all other requirements, you may use the professional title "remedial teacher".

If you lack the professional qualifications required for recognition, the notification will state the main differences. You can then take a compensatory measure.

• Completed and signed application form and Annex 1 Privacy Policy
• Proof of identity (identity card or passport)
• Confirmation of residence in Saxony-Anhalt
• Proof of any change of name
• Proof of your professional qualification
• Proof of training, subjects and overview of grades
• Proof of professional experience as a curative educator
• Proof of other qualifications
• Certificate that the profession may be practiced in the country of training
• Information on applications for recognition that have already been submitted. Please indicate the body to which you have submitted the application.

If your documents are not in German, you must submit German translations of your documents. The translations must be made by translators who are publicly appointed or authorized.

• Equivalence of your professional qualification
• You must be authorized to practice the profession in the country in which you are training.

Fees of between 25.00 and 600 euros are charged and depend on the cost of the recognition procedure.

• You submit a written application including all necessary documents and send it to the Saxony-Anhalt State Education Authority.
• It will then be checked whether your documents have been submitted in full. If this is not the case, you will be asked in writing to submit the relevant documents.
• For the purpose of recognition, the competent authority will check on the basis of your certificates whether and to what extent your foreign qualification corresponds to a German qualification for the profession of curative education teacher. This review is based on defined formal criteria, such as the content and duration of the training. Your relevant professional experience and other relevant qualifications will also be taken into account.
• Within 3 months of submitting the complete documentation, you will be informed by the competent body whether
  • recognition will be granted,
  • there are deficits in the qualification and therefore compensatory
  • compensatory measures are necessary before recognition,
  • recognition cannot be granted.

• Duration (with fixed time): 3 months, the period begins with receipt of complete documents

Note for further information on the processing time:

• The responsible office will confirm receipt of your application within one month. The responsible office will inform you if further documents are required.
• If you have submitted all the required documents, you will receive a decision with the result after 3 months at the latest. In certain cases, the competent body may extend the procedure.

There are no deadlines to be observed. The deadline for submitting the application begins when the responsible office confirms that the required documents are complete.

If you do not agree with the decision of the competent authority, you can lodge an appeal with the administrative court. Details can be found in the information on legal remedies at the end of your decision. We recommend that you first speak to the competent authority before taking legal action against the decision.

• Permission to use the professional title of curative educator in the case of professional qualifications from abroad Issued
• The profession is regulated. This means that you must provide proof of a certain qualification in order to be allowed to work in the profession.
• Prerequisite: Equivalence of the professional qualification
• Documents to be submitted: Curriculum vitae, proof of identity, proof of your professional qualification, training certificates, professional experience as a curative teacher, other qualifications, information on applications already submitted.
• Confirmation of receipt of the application will be sent no later than one month after the application has been submitted. Any missing documents will be requested subsequently.
• Processing time: 3 months from receipt of all necessary documents. In certain cases, the competent body may extend the procedure.
• If significant differences are identified, a compensatory measure may be taken.
