Your membership at your university ends with the exmatriculation.
There are several reasons why you may be exmatriculated.
The university often exmatriculates ex officio. A so-called forced exmatriculation can have a negative effect on your CV. In addition, you may be prohibited from studying at this university in the future.
You can also apply for exmatriculation.
A self-applied exmatriculation is especially necessary if you want to change universities.
If you would like to be exmatriculated on your own, you only have to submit an application. For this purpose, the universities offer application forms.
If you want to finish your studies on your own, you do not have to meet any other requirements.
Exmatriculation takes place ex officio if you
- have successfully completed their studies
- have definitively failed an important exam
- have not paid the tuition fee and the semester fee
- do not report back in time
- significantly violate the house rules, e.B become violent
The exmatriculation itself is free of charge. The tuition fees already paid will usually be returned to you on request.
If you would like to complete your studies on your own, you can apply for exmatriculation at the university. You determine when exmatriculation is to apply.
The university will then issue you with a certificate.
If, despite repeated requests, you do not submit all documents or pay fees, you will be exmatriculated by the university. This will be threatened to you in advance. You will then receive a notification from the university.
If you have successfully completed your studies, you will not receive a separate notification. The certificate of completion is considered a certificate of exmatriculation.
If you are exmatriculated, you should immediately inform your health insurance company and the BAFöG office.
A forced exmatriculation can lead to the fact that you are not allowed to continue studying at other universities. If, for example, you have definitively failed an examination and have therefore been exmatriculated, you may not continue this field of study nationwide.
