Would you like to obtain a doctorate? Here you will find information on how to register for doctoral studies.

Through a doctorate, you will receive the academic degree of a doctor. You can complete your doctorate at any university and equivalent higher education institution.

During a doctorate, you will write your dissertation (doctoral thesis). In the meantime, they are supervised by a professor of the department.

You will be enrolled as a doctoral candidate. However, you are not entitled to educational support (BAföG).

In Saxony-Anhalt you can do your doctorate at the following colleges and universities:

• MartinLuther University Halle-Wittenberg,
• Ottovon Guericke University Magdeburg
• Burg Giebichenstein Kunsthochschule Halle

• Registration for doctoral studies
• Proof of university degree
• Confirmation that supervision is being carried out by a professor

• Completed university studies
  • As a rule, you need a higher degree (e.B. Master's degree). A bachelor's degree is usually not enough.
  • Often your final grade is also an admission criterion.
• Supervision by a professor

The respective university decides which additional requirements you have to meet.

During your doctorate, you have to pay semester fees. These vary from university to university.

First of all, you should choose a dissertation topic together with your supervising professor.

You submit an application to the university for registration for a doctorate. The form can usually be found on the university's website. In addition, you will also find information on which documents you have to submit.

As soon as you have submitted all documents to the university, the university will check the requirements. In the positive case, you will be enrolled by the university as a doctoral student.
