Can't find a training place? Find out here whether a vocational preparation year (BVJ) is an alternative for you.
The vocational preparation year (BVJ) provides pupils with specialist and general learning content and prepares them for vocational training. It is a specific type of vocational school designed to make it easier for young people to enter dual vocational training, full-time education or employment.
The BVJ enables pupils to complete their compulsory schooling and at the same time gives them the opportunity to obtain a secondary general school certificate.
In the BVJ, basic vocational knowledge is taught in two occupational areas: It serves to provide vocational orientation, to expand general education and to acquire basic key qualifications.

Many schools provide information and application forms on their homepage.
They are still subject to compulsory schooling,
- But cannot find an apprenticeship or a place at a secondary school after finishing or dropping out of school
- You need vocational preparation
- have completed a special school for the learning disabled or a special school with compensatory classes or have attended for at least 9 years.
Pupils who have not reached the end of year 8 after nine years of attending secondary school or comprehensive school are also accepted.

The vocational preparation year (BVJ) has the task of preparing pupils for vocational training in a one-year full-time school course. To this end, the pupils are taught specialist and general learning content with special consideration of the requirements of a vocational activity.
