You have successfully completed your medical studies and would now like to do a specialist training? Here you will find information about it.
Continuing education for academic health professions, especially for doctors, is an important prerequisite for practicing the profession.
During the training, you will learn the necessary skills and abilities for your future profession.
Through the further training, you will receive your specialist, focus or additional qualification. If you successfully complete several further training courses, you may use all acquired designations side by side (e.B. FA for Paediatric and Adolescent Medicine - Focus on Paediatric Cardiology).
The training is conducted exclusively by doctors who have been authorized by the Medical Association.
The duration of the training depends on the respective course. If you have already completed an internship in a medical institution during your training, this can also be counted towards the training period. In principle, you must complete the further training full-time and full-time. However, exceptions are also possible here.
As a doctor without specialist training, you are not allowed to work in all areas and institutions of medicine. In the past, doctors without specialist training were allowed to settle down as general practitioners or work as contract doctors. This is no longer possible. However, you are likely to continue to work in a private practice, in emergencies or in practice representations.
For the recognition of the further education, you must meet the following requirements:
- You have successfully completed your studies.
- As a doctor, you need a license to practice medicine.
- You have successfully completed further training as a specialist or focus. The training is documented in the logbook.
- You have passed the examination of the respective further education.
- You work or live in Saxony-Anhalt
For the recognition a fee between 25.00 and 75.00 euros is due.
In addition, you must also pay an examination fee of 100.00 euros.
As soon as you have received your license, you can start further training. All offered continuing education courses are announced by the Medical Association. During the training, you will acquire all the necessary skills and abilities. All completed courses are documented in a logbook.
At the end of the training, you apply for admission to the examination at the Medical Association. You can only be admitted to an examination for the focus if you have already successfully completed a specialist training.
The Medical Association sets the date for examination. This is oral and lasts at least 30 minutes. You have passed the exam if you achieve at least the grade "sufficient".
After passing the exam, you can apply for recognition at the Medical Association. You will receive the certificate of recognition and may use the specialist, specialisation or additional qualification.
The test takes place at least 2 weeks after admission.
There are no deadlines for applying for recognition.
On the website of the Medical Association you will find further comprehensive information.
You must submit your application for recognition to the Medical Association of Saxony-Anhalt.
