If electronic proof of identity has been activated, you can arrange for your ID card to be blocked by the responsible office if it is lost or stolen.

The electronic proof of identity must be blocked in person or by telephone. The personal data and the blocking password must be provided when blocking.

If electronic proof of identity has been activated, you can arrange for your ID card to be blocked by the responsible office if it is lost or stolen.

Responsibility lies with the municipality and city in which the residence is located or with the authority that issued the identity card.

Alternatively, the card can be blocked by calling the blocking emergency number +49 116 116 (free of charge from German landlines and mobile networks; available Monday to Sunday from midnight). The amount of the charges from abroad depends on the prices of the respective foreign provider/network operator.
