After a name change during a marriage or the establishment of a civil partnership, a new passport is required.

The issuance of a new passport is only necessary if the passport continues to be used.

• a valid identity card (passport, identity card, children's ID card, children's passport),
• a current photo in passport format (45 x 35 mm), portrait format, frontal shot without edge, without headgear and without covering the eyes (biometric photo),
• Your previous passport,
• Your birth certificate,
• when applying for a child :
  • Identification of the custodian present,
  • the declaration of consent and a copy of the identity card of the non-present guardian,
  • proof of custody in the case of only one legal guardian.

The applicant must make a personal appearance to apply for the passport (e-passport). The application is completed on site with the processor. The applicant only needs to sign.

The passport cannot be taken immediately after the application has been submitted, as it is produced at bundesdruckerei in Berlin. If the passport is required earlier, an express passport can be requested.

If a trip abroad is intended immediately after the marriage or the establishment of a civil partnership, the issuance of a new passport can be applied for before the marriage or the establishment of the civil partnership; the handover takes place in any case only after the marriage or establishment of the civil partnership and in the presence of the documents proving the name.

When applying for the documents, suitable documents from the registry office for marriage are required.
