Your child has been diagnosed with special educational needs and your child cannot be adequately supported in another type of school?

A special school offers your child with special educational needs a special learning environment.  Despite a disability or other impairments, your child will have the opportunity to take advantage of educational opportunities. In their pedagogical work, these schools are geared towards different focal points in terms of support needs.

There are the following special schools in Saxony-Anhalt:

• Special schools for the blind and visually impaired
• Special schools for the deaf or hearing impaired
• Special schools for the physically handicapped
• Special schools for learning disabilities
• Special schools for language development
• Special schools with compensatory classes
• Special schools for the mentally handicapped

Special schools cooperate with other general and vocational schools and, under certain conditions, your child can obtain all the qualifications of general education schools.        

Your child has a disability or several impairments and a special educational need has been identified and it cannot be sufficiently supported in the other type of school even with special help.

• Your child has been identified as having special educational needs.
• Taking into account which impairments or disabilities your child has, you decide at which special school you register your child.
• You or the teachers submit an application for admission to the corresponding  special school.

Admission to a special school can usually take place up to the 6th school year.

Inclusion (joint teaching of pupils with and without special educational needs):

Joint teaching means that pupils with and without special educational needs are taught together in one class. For the design of lessons, the teachers of the school visited receive support from special school teachers. For pupils with special educational needs in joint lessons, support agreements or support plans can be important in order to establish a learning connection and to enable the acquisition of school qualifications. The support takes place in the classroom through the task design and the encouragement. In addition, supplementary support measures can be offered within or outside the school, e.B through support hours or targeted exercise material, through supplementary support offers within the framework of school possibilities.
