Citizens also have the option of taking their pet to a boarding kennel while they are on vacation or sick.

The state provides financial support for animal welfare projects. In addition to funding structural measures to improve housing conditions in animal shelters, projects that serve to improve animal welfare as well as particularly animal-friendly housing conditions and the public recognition of outstanding initiatives and achievements in the field of animal welfare are also funded. Official veterinarians carry out regular and focused inspections and investigate complaints and reports of animal welfare violations. They initiate proceedings to impose fines or impose conditions on those responsible in order to eliminate abuses.
