Would you like to register your child in a daycare center? Here you will find all the important information.

Child day care includes the care and support of your child in a child day care facility, such as a crèche, kindergarten or after-school care center.

Day care centers have the following tasks:

• They promote the child's development into a self-determined, independent and socially competent personality.

• They support and supplement upbringing and education in the family.

• They help parents to better reconcile work, child rearing and family care.

The support mandate encompasses the upbringing, education and care of the child. It relates to the child's social, emotional, physical and mental development. It includes the teaching of guiding values and rules.

The support should be based on the following characteristics of the children:

• Age

• level of development

• Linguistic and other abilities

• life situation

• interests and needs

• ethnic origin.

You conclude a childcare contract with the daycare provider. In the childcare contract, you specify the scope of care.

• Children up to their 3rd birthday: Your child can go to a crèche.

• From their 3rd birthday until they start school: Your child may attend a kindergarten.

• From school entry until the 14th birthday: Your child may attend an after-school care center.

• Your child's usual place of residence is in Saxony-Anhalt.

The costs depend on the facility or type of facility, the age of your child and the amount of childcare you choose.

• Your family receives child benefit for at least 2 children.

• You pay childcare costs for the eldest child who attends a childcare facility or daycare center.

• You pay for each schoolchild who attends an after-school care center.

As the legal guardian, you must pay the costs of meals.

You should obtain information from the responsible office in good time and register your wishes, for example the scope of care or place of care.

Personal contact or a personal meeting between you and the childcare facility is also useful and usually possible. Many facilities offer an introduction to their facility before registration or before signing a childcare contract.

In Saxony-Anhalt, children have a legal entitlement to a full-day place in a daycare facility or daycare center from birth.

The legal entitlement is fulfilled when the local public youth welfare organization provides the entitled person or the parents with proof of a free place within a reasonable distance.
