Anyone planning an event in the forest must notify the regional forestry offices in advance. The forestry offices then check whether there is a risk to the forest or its functions (use, protection and recreation).

If necessary, the forestry offices can impose conditions on the organizer to ensure that there is no danger to the forest.

There is no obligation to notify if it is an organized event with a small number of participants (up to 50 participants) for the purpose of environmental education.

Irrespective of the obligation to notify the forestry offices, the consent of the forest owner is required, for example, for fun runs, orienteering races, cycle races, music events and forest festivals. These events are no longer covered by the general right of access, meaning that it is no longer possible to speak of using the forest "for the purpose of recreation".

Informal notification with at least the following details:

• Name and type of event
• Expected number of participants
• Details of any fees
• Map of the event area
• Period of the event
• Information on whether impacts on species protection are to be expected

Timely notification and compliance with any ancillary provisions of the forestry authority.

• They report the event to the regional forestry offices.
• The forestry office checks whether there is a risk to the forest or its functions (utilization, protection and recreation).
• The functions include, for example, the use of wood, the protection of animals, plants, water and air, but also the forest as a recreational area for all forest visitors.
• If necessary, the forestry authorities can impose conditions on the organizer to ensure that there are no risks to the forest.
