The professional titles of architect, interior designer, landscape architect, landscape architect, urban planner and urban planner may only be used by persons who are entered in the corresponding list.

1. you are a member of a chamber in the EU area

You submit the following documents:

Certificate of membership of the other chamber in the EU area in the original or as a certified copy

Copy of the university certificate

Proof of good repute from the competent foreign chamber

Registration certificate (not older than six months) for the main residence in the original or proof of establishment or place of employment in North Rhine-Westphalia

2. you are an EU foreigner and not yet a member of a chamber in the EU area (§ 4 para. 3-5 BauKaG NRW)

You submit the following documents:

Certified copies of all degree certificates and certificates from the university (e.g. Bachelor's and Master's certificates)

Proof of employment (references or certificates) in the original or as certified copies in accordance with § 4 Para. 6 BauKaG NRW as proof of two years of full-time or appropriately longer part-time employment in the subject area listed under Section 2

Certificates of participation in recognized further training measures amounting to 80 teaching hours in accordance with the further education and training regulations in copies

Original registration certificate (not older than six months) for the main residence or proof of residence or place of employment in North Rhine-Westphalia

Planning documents for at least two projects, e.g. a scaled-down implementation plan and a scaled-down design plan

3. you are a third-country national with an equivalent university degree (§ 4 Para. 3-5 BauKaG NRW)

You submit the following documents:

Certificate of a recognized university degree in certified copy

Documents as under 2

4. the university degree you have completed does not correspond to a German degree with a standard period of study of four years, i.e. it is not equivalent.

You fall under the scope of the Professional Qualifications Assessment Act (BQFG) NRW.

You must submit the following documents:

1. a tabular list in German of the training courses you have completed and the gainful employment you have held

2. proof of identity

3. proof of training acquired abroad

4. proof of relevant professional experience and other certificates of competence, if these are required to establish equivalence

5. a certificate of authorization to practice the profession in the country of training

6. a declaration as to whether and to which body an application for determination of equivalence has already been submitted.

7. original registration certificate (not older than six months) of the main residence or proof of establishment or place of employment in North Rhine-Westphalia

Fill out the application form (under the following link:

and submit it with the necessary documents. The documents will be checked at the office and, if they are complete, submitted to the registration committee. The registration committee decides on the registration.

Personal appearance required: no

If your university degree is not equivalent, the AKNW will first request an assessment from the Central Office for Foreign Education.
