If you move out of your sole or main residence and do not move into another residence in Germany, you must deregister. This is usually the case if you move abroad.

If you move within Germany, you do not have to deregister. It is sufficient to register with your new municipality.

The following documents must be submitted:

• Identity documents of the persons to be deregistered

The following requirements must be met:

• Moving out of the sole or main residence and
• no move into another home in Germany.

The deregistration procedure is as follows:

In person:

• You go to the relevant authority and fill out a registration form.
• You present the identity documents of the person to be deregistered.
• You will then receive the official confirmation of registration from the registration office.

In writing:

• You inform the registration office of the extract with the completed registration form.
• You enclose copies of the ID cards of the persons to be deregistered.
• You will receive the official confirmation of registration by post from the registration office.

Electronically:

• If electronic access has been set up by the registration authority, you can also deregister electronically.

• Place of residence - deregistration of the sole or main residence
• if you move out of your sole residence and do not move into another residence in Germany, you must deregister
• this is regularly the case when moving abroad
• When moving within Germany, no deregistration is required; in this case, registration in the new municipality is required
• no fees
• Deadline: at the latest within 2 weeks of moving out, at the earliest one week before moving out
• Responsible: Registration office of the previous sole or main residence
