If you move within your municipality, you must inform your municipality of your new address (re-registration).
- identity card or passport, if the person obliged to register is over 16 years of age
- Personal documents of the family members who are registered together on one registration form
- in the case of children: Children's passport or birth certificate
The registration office may request the submission of further documents which serve as proof of the information provided (e.g. birth certificate, marriage certificate, divorce decree).

If you do not comply with your obligation to re-register or do not do so in good time, you are committing an administrative offence which may be punishable by a fine.
If you change your residence within the municipality, you must complete and sign the officially prescribed registration form. You must hand it in personally or instruct another suitable person to do so.
Depending on what the municipality offers, you may not need to fill in the registration form and the data may be accepted directly if you appear in person at the authority. You must then confirm the accuracy of the data on a printout from the registration office by signing it.
Family members and members of a civil partnership should use a joint registration form if they move from a shared apartment to a new shared apartment on the same day.
After the re-registration, you will receive a registration confirmation.
If your municipality has opened an Internet access for the registration, you can also register via this access. You will need a so-called qualified electronic signature in accordance with the Siganturgesetz (SigG). However, if you use a pseudonym instead of your name in your electronic signature, you cannot use this option and must proceed as described above.
