Integration assistance is there to ensure that people with disabilities can live the way they want to. People with disabilities should be able to participate in society on an equal footing.

When you make an application, the employees of the Landschaftsverband want to find out exactly what you need. To do this, they will talk to you in person or look it up in the documents you have submitted.

People who cannot live alone in their own home without support can receive assistance services, for example. This is possible in

• their own home,
• a freely chosen shared flat or
• a special form of accommodation.

There are various services. These are, for example

• Benefits for living space: These are devices or structural measures that make everyday life easier, such as ramps and stair lifts.
• Mobility benefits: This benefit is available to people who are unable to use public transportation due to the nature and severity of their disability.
• Benefits for care in a foster family: People with disabilities can also live as guests in a family. The family supports them in leading as self-determined and independent a life as possible.
• Services to promote communication: This benefit is intended to enable or facilitate contact with other people for people with hearing and/or speech impairments on special occasions, for example through sign language interpreters.
• Assistive devices: Assistive devices are objects that are intended to help people with disabilities to compensate for possible limitations.
• Parental assistance: Parental assistance is intended to help parents with disabilities to cope with everyday life together with their children as independently and autonomously as possible.
• Services to acquire and maintain practical knowledge and skills: Skills are trained in order to be able to cope with everyday life (for example cooking, orientation). Usually several people meet in a group and practise together.

The form of the service can also vary. In addition to benefits in kind - such as the financing of a service provider - lump sums or cash benefits are also possible as part of the personal budget.

You are welcome to ask questions by telephone or in person. The responsible regional association will also provide information about support options from other service providers, such as health insurance companies or the local social welfare office.

• An application is required, but this can be made informally or verbally.
• Personal data with the addition of relevant evidence
• Proof of disability (specialist medical certificate)
• If supported by a third party: Power of attorney (if you are asking other people for help with the application)
• In the case of guardianship: guardianship certificate (if you have a legally appointed guardian)
• If you have a care degree: notification from the care insurance fund about the determination of the care degree
• Proof of income and assets, if applicable
• Depending on the benefit applied for, further documents may be required
• During the consultation, the staff will clarify with you which further documents are required

You are entitled to integration assistance benefits if certain requirements are met.

These are the requirements:

1. You are significantly restricted in your equal participation in society due to your disability or a disability that will soon occur. These can be significant physical, mental or psychological disabilities or sensory impairments. This means that you are unable to do many things in everyday life, at work or in other areas of life because of your disability or have great difficulty doing so.
2. The benefit is suitable and necessary to enable you to lead an individual life and to promote full, effective and equal participation in society. This means that the benefit can help you to achieve your goals so that you can lead your life the way you want to and so that you can participate in society on an equal footing. This would not be possible without this benefit.
3. There is a chance that the task of integration assistance can be fulfilled. This means that it must be possible for you to achieve the goals of integration assistance with the benefit.

You can apply for integration assistance from your responsible regional association (Landschaftsverband Rheinland (LVR) or Landschaftsverband Westfalen-Lippe (LWL)).

Responsibility will be checked within 2 weeks of receipt of the application. If another institution is responsible, your application will be forwarded immediately. You will be informed of any forwarding.

If necessary, you will be asked to submit additional documents.

The necessary support services will be determined together with you.

You will receive notification of your entitlement to integration assistance.

You must always inform the Landschaftsverband promptly of any changes in your personal and financial circumstances.

The benefits granted are generally reviewed every 2 years at the latest. If something changes in the meantime, please inform the Landschaftsverband. The benefit will then be adjusted.

• Appeal within one month of notification of the administrative decision
• Action before the social court within one month of notification of the objection notice
• Action for failure to act at the social court

• Includes:
  • Services for people of legal age with disabilities to participate in life in society
  • Individual needs-based support inside and outside of institutions (e.g. in a special form of accommodation or in their own home)
  • Services for participation in working life
  • Benefits only for people with disabilities and for people who are very likely to become disabled in the foreseeable future
• Benefits are provided on application
• Benefits are only paid if certain conditions are met
• Benefits are dependent on income and assets
• Advice on support options for people with disabilities, including at their place of residence or on site
• The most important benefit groups:
  • Social participation,
  • Participation in work,
  • Benefits for education,
  • Medical rehabilitation only in relation to weaning and adaptations
• Determination of individual needs using a standardized needs assessment tool
