Music schools are educational institutions whose main tasks are to provide a basic musical education, to train the next generation of amateur and amateur musicians, to identify and promote talented students and to prepare them for professional studies. You can use a digital application assistant to enrol at a public music school. Once the application has been completed and submitted, you will receive confirmation of your enrollment from the music school. A teaching contract only comes into effect after you have made an appointment, been allocated a lesson and received confirmation of admission from the music school. As a rule, the music school will appoint the teacher.

You don't need to have any previous musical knowledge to start at a music school. The necessary knowledge is taught in the lessons.

However, admission to individual types of lessons may be made dependent on proof of certain prior knowledge or an aptitude test. Minors must be registered by a legal representative.

The application is made via a digital application assistant.

• Authentication with the Servicekonto.NRW is required.
• Please enter your details in the fields provided, submit the application online and confirm payment of the fee.
• During the completion process, you will be informed of the possibility of a reduced fee.
• You have the option of uploading documents in order to receive a discount.
• Your music school will check whether a reduction can be granted after receiving your application.

Certain deadlines must also often be observed when terminating membership of a music school.
