You can obtain the following qualifications:

• Hauptschulabschluss
• Secondary school certificate after year 10
• Mittlerer Schulabschluss (Fachoberschulreife), which can be combined with the entitlement to attend vocational college courses leading to a general higher education entrance qualification.

The duration of the course depends on previous knowledge (qualification and level of education). A classification is made. The evening secondary school usually lasts two years (four semesters). Depending on your previous knowledge, you can shorten the duration of the course by up to two semesters. Lessons last 20 to 22 hours per week.

If you do not have a school-leaving certificate, you will usually have to attend a preliminary course. This also applies if your German language skills are insufficient, if you have no knowledge of a compulsory foreign language or if you have not reached year 9.

The head teacher decides on admission to an evening secondary school.

To be able to attend the Abendrealschule course, you must:

• have at least six months of work experience or previous work experience.
• have a secondary school leaving certificate or have completed compulsory full-time schooling.
• be at least 17 years old (at the start of the 1st semester).

Professional activity also counts:

• marginal employment (with pay)
• completed military or civilian service
• voluntary service
• If applicable, certified unemployment (pro rata)
• (commenced) training
• Leading your own family household (at least 2 persons)
• Parental leave
• Caring for a relative

• Pupils can submit their application via the internet portal Schüler Online (www.schueleranmeldung.de).
• The respective school decides on the registration and informs the parties involved of the decision via the internet portal and in writing.
• Please note that even in the case of online registration, a personal appointment at the school is necessary for the principal or principal to decide on admission.

• Register at a further education college: Evening secondary school course
• For generally younger people from the age of 18 who are employed or can provide evidence of at least six months of professional activity or activity recognized as professional activity and would like to acquire a lower secondary level qualification in addition to their work.
• Qualifications: Secondary school leaving certificate, secondary school leaving certificate after year 10, intermediate school leaving certificate (Fachoberschulreife)
• Depending on the qualification and level of education, further training usually takes two years (four semesters). Depending on previous knowledge: Shortened by up to two semesters
• Teaching time: 20 to 22 hours per week
