At a vocational grammar school you can:

• the general higher education entrance qualification and additionally a vocational qualification or
• vocational knowledge, skills and abilities as well as the general higher education entrance qualification

acquire.

Are you pursuing the goal of gaining a general higher education entrance qualification and also a vocational qualification? This double qualification opens up a variety of options for you. The Abitur entitles you to study at any university.

Teaching

The Berufliches Gymnasium is divided into subject areas. Vocational grammar school courses that lead to a vocational qualification in accordance with state law and a general higher education entrance qualification take up to four years.

Teaching in vocational grammar schools is divided into basic and advanced courses. The subjects on the timetable are organized according to subject areas: linguistic-literary-artistic, social sciences, mathematics, natural sciences and technology. Religious education and sport or sport/health promotion are not assigned to any subject area.

In the vocational learning area, the profile-forming subjects and, as a rule, mathematics, a natural science, English, the second foreign language, computer science and economics are taught. These subjects prepare students specifically for a relevant course of study.

Interdisciplinary subjects are German, religious education, sport and social studies with history. Schools can offer individual and regional specializations in the area of differentiation.

A work placement of at least four weeks is carried out in year 12.

The Abitur examination and the first part of the final vocational examination must be taken at the end of year 13. The second part of the final vocational examination for state-certified assistants takes place after a school-supervised twelve-week work placement in year 14.

After the Abitur examination and the first part of the final vocational examination in year 14, nursery teachers complete a twelve-month work placement which ends with the second part of the final vocational examination.

After successfully completing the course, you will acquire the following qualifications

• General higher education entrance qualification (Abitur)
• Vocational qualification according to state law

By combining general and vocational education and training, these courses will take you to the Abitur, provided you are eligible to attend the upper secondary school.

The school management decides on admission to a vocational grammar school.

This is a matter for the school authorities, if necessary:

• a copy of the last school report and
• possibly passport photos
• possibly further documents depending on the school.

Authorization to attend the gymnasiale Oberstufe.

• Pupils can register for the vocational grammar school via the internet portal Schüler Online(www.schueleranmeldung.de).
• The respective vocational college decides on the application and informs the parties involved of the decision via the internet portal and in writing.

• If you have obtained the school-based part of the Fachhochschulreife at the Berufskolleg, you can be admitted directly to year 12 of the Berufliches Gymnasium while retaining the subject area/specialist focus. You must demonstrate knowledge of a second foreign language to at least the extent of the lessons in year 11.
• If you have acquired the school-based part of the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences, but would like to change to a different subject area/specialist focus, you can be admitted to year 11.
• If you have acquired the school-based part of the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences but do not have the necessary knowledge of the second foreign language, you can be admitted to year 11.
• If you leave the course after year 11, 12 or 13, you can be awarded the school-based part of the Fachhochschulreife if the relevant conditions are met.

Vocational grammar school admission

• Acquisition of a vocational qualification in accordance with state law (assistant; educator) and the general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur) or
• Acquisition of vocational knowledge, skills and abilities as well as the general higher education entrance qualification (Abitur)
• Pupils at a vocational grammar school can focus on vocational subjects.
• The school management decides on admission.
