Do you have completed vocational training or at least two years of professional experience or can you provide evidence of equivalent or creditable work experience and would like to acquire a general higher education entrance qualification or the school-based part of the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences alongside your profession? Then you can attend the evening high school course at the Weiterbildungskolleg.

The course is divided into:

• Preliminary courses (depending on placement)
• Introductory phase (1st - 2nd semester)
• Qualification phase (3rd-6th semester)

Secondary level I school-leaving qualifications can be obtained after two semesters (one year), the advanced technical college entrance qualification (school-based part) after four semesters (two years) and the Abitur generally after six semesters (three years).

If you have an intermediate school-leaving certificate (Fachoberschulreife), you usually start in the first semester. Depending on your previous knowledge, you can apply to be admitted to the second or third semester.

If you do not have a secondary school leaving certificate, you will usually attend the preliminary course at the evening grammar school or a corresponding course at the evening secondary school. Attendance of the preliminary course or evening secondary school can be replaced by an aptitude test.

The decision on placement is made by the school management.

Classes usually take place five evenings a week. Most colleges of further education that offer evening classes also offer morning classes and some also offer afternoon classes. The courses offered comprise at least 20 lessons per week, and at least 12 lessons in the preliminary course.

The Abitur-Online course with reduced attendance times at the school is a special offer in the evening grammar school course: Around half of the lessons are completed in self-study via a learning platform at home on a computer and with supplementary written learning materials.

In order to attend the evening grammar school course, you must:

• be at least 18 years old at the start of the first semester,
• have completed vocational training or have at least two years of professional experience.

The following are taken into account or treated equally:

• Periods of service in the German Armed Forces or the Federal Police
• completed military and civilian service
• a completed year of social service or a voluntary year recognized as equivalent
• independent management of a family household with at least one person in need of education or care
• Proven unemployment
• be employed or recognized as a job seeker by the employment agency upon entry to the course and up to and including the third semester. The independent management of a family household with at least one person in need of education or care is equivalent to a professional activity.

• Pupils can submit their application via the internet portal Schüler Online (www.schueleranmeldung.de).
• The respective school decides on the registration and informs the parties involved of the decision via the internet portal and in writing.
• Please note that even in the case of online registration, a personal appointment at the school is necessary for the head teacher to decide on admission.

• Adults who have completed vocational training or have at least two years of professional experience or equivalent or creditable work experience can enrol on the evening grammar school course to
• obtain a general higher education entrance qualification while working.
• Qualifications: intermediate school leaving certificate (Fachoberschulreife), Fachhochschulreife (school-based part), general higher education entrance qualification
• Lessons usually take place five evenings a week
• Morning and afternoon courses where applicable
• At least 20 lessons, at least 12 lessons in the preliminary course
• Depending on the qualification and level of education, further training usually takes three to four years.
