Deregistration must be notified in writing to the principal either by the legal guardians or by the pupil themselves once they have reached the age of religious majority (from the age of 14). If minors withdraw from religious instruction, their legal guardians must be informed.
The exemption from religious instruction cannot be tied to specific dates. If the declaration is revoked, the obligation to attend religious instruction continues to apply. If there are sufficient grounds for assessment, a grade will be awarded. For school organizational reasons, the school may limit renewed attendance to the beginning of a school semester.

Pupils at lower secondary level who do not take part in religious education are obliged to take the subject of practical philosophy if this subject is provided for in the educational regulations and is offered at the school.
In the upper Gymnasium level, pupils who do not take part in religious education are obliged to take the subject Philosophy in accordance with § 32 of the German School Act.
The legal guardians inform the school management in writing about the deregistration. After reaching the age of religious majority (from the age of 14), the pupil informs the school management in writing. If minors withdraw from religious instruction, the school management will inform their legal guardians.
