- Joint circular on conducting medical examinations in accordance with the Youth Employment Protection Act, issuing examination authorization certificates and survey forms, billing procedures
If you are under the age of 18 and wish to start gainful employment (e.g. an apprenticeship), you must first undergo a medical examination (initial examination). To do this, you must first apply for a medical examination certificate from the local authority.
The purpose of the examination is to prevent you from being put at risk in terms of health or development as a result of your employment.
After the examination, you will receive a medical certificate. You must present this to your employer before starting work. The certificate must not be older than 14 months at the start of employment.
Between the tenth and twelfth month after taking up employment, you must undergo a first follow-up examination and submit the certificate to your employer again. The purpose of the follow-up examination is to determine whether your employment has affected your health. The follow-up examination can then be repeated voluntarily every year until you are 18 years old (further follow-up examinations).
You do not need a check-up if you start a minor job or if you only work for a short time (maximum 2 months). This applies, for example, to a vacation job or a student internship.
The examination costs are paid by the state. You must apply for the examination authorization certificate and hand it over to your doctor so that he or she can be reimbursed for the examination costs.
- Young people (15 to 17 years of age) who start working life must have a medical examination before starting work (initial examination)
- An examination authorization certificate is required for the examination, which must be applied for at the municipality of residence
- The young person has a free choice of doctor for the examination
- After the start of employment, the first
follow-up examination takes place between the tenth and twelfth month, provided the young person is still under 18
