If you are legally established in another member state of the European Union or in another state party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area for the purpose of working as an interpreter, translator or a comparable activity and you carry out your activity lawfully and in accordance with the regulations before the courts and public prosecutor's offices in North Rhine-Westphalia, you will be entered in the register of sworn interpreters and authorized translators. To be registered, you must notify us of your activity.
Interpreters are generally sworn and translators are authorized to translate for judicial and public prosecution purposes in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The work of interpreters includes oral and written translation, that of translators generally only the written translation of a language. The Presidents of the Higher Regional Courts of North Rhine-Westphalia keep a joint register of sworn interpreters and authorized translators, which can be inspected by anyone.
The entry in the register is made upon notification of the activity. The following must be included in the register
- Name,
- address,
- telecommunications connections,
- profession, any additional qualifications and
- the respective language.
The data required for this purpose may be collected and stored. The directory may be included in automated retrieval procedures and published on the Internet.
- Name, address, telecommunications connections, profession, details of any additional qualifications and the relevant language;
- a certificate stating that the applicant is legally established in another Member State of the European Union or State party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area for the purpose of practising as a sworn interpreter or authorized translator or a comparable activity and that he/she is not prohibited, even temporarily, from practising this activity at the time the certificate is submitted,
- proof of professional qualification. If the profession is not regulated in the country of establishment, proof that you have lawfully practiced the activity there for at least two years during the previous ten years, and
- the professional title under which the activity is to be performed in Germany.
You must legally exercise an activity in another member state of the European Union or a state party to the Agreement on the European Economic Area as a sworn interpreter or authorized translator (or comparable activity) established there.
