The following is intended to provide you with an overview of vocational colleges in North Rhine-Westphalia:

The vocational college courses are divided into subject areas, occupational fields, specializations and specialist areas.

The lessons in the individual courses are divided into

• a vocational learning area,
  which serves in particular to provide vocational and technical qualifications.
• an inter-occupational learning area,
  which complements the vocational qualification and contributes to the development of social, cultural, ethical and religious skills. Sport serves to promote health.
• a differentiation area,
  which enables learners to supplement, expand and deepen their individual knowledge, skills and abilities accordingly.

The learning areas, their subjects and learning fields are coordinated with each other and contribute to a comprehensive competence to act.

This is a matter for the school authorities, if necessary:

• a copy of the last school report and
• possibly passport photos
• further documents depending on the school and course of education.

The applicable requirements for admission to a course at a vocational college can be found in the individual explanations of the respective courses.

• Pupils and training companies can register for the respective course via the Schüler Online internet portal.
• The respective vocational college decides on the application and informs the parties involved of the decision via the internet portal and in writing.

Vocational college

• Attendance at a vocational college in NRW: Attendance at an upper secondary level school
• Key educational objective of the Berufskolleg: Acquisition of comprehensive professional, social and personal skills
• Comparable to vocational schools in other federal states
• Teaching of vocational qualifications (vocational knowledge, further vocational training and vocational qualifications)
• Differentiated teaching system in single and double qualification courses
• Possibility of acquiring or catching up on all general education qualifications from secondary general school certificate to general higher education entrance qualification.
