Fachschule

As a student at the technical college, you pursue the goal of further vocational training. You also have the opportunity to acquire the entrance qualification for universities of applied sciences.

The technical colleges provide further vocational training and build on your initial vocational training and professional experience. As a graduate of a technical college, you will qualify for management positions in companies, businesses, administrations and other institutions. In the field of social work, technical colleges enable their students to work independently and autonomously in the areas of education, training, care and support.

Teaching

As a full-time student at a Fachschule, you will usually graduate after two years of full-time teaching. Many technical college courses are also offered in a three or four-year part-time format for working professionals.

Degrees

• After passing the technical college examination, you will receive a state vocational qualification.
• The acquisition of the Fachhochschulreife is dependent on attending the corresponding additional courses and is also obtained by passing a final examination. If necessary, an additional vocational qualification can also be acquired through additional courses.

Vocational qualifications

• Successful completion of the Fachschule entitles the holder to use the professional title "Staatlich geprüfte/Staatlich geprüfter" (state-certified), indicating the subject area, specialization and, if applicable, the focus.
• In the field of social work, the professional title "Staatlich anerkannte/Staatlich anerkannter " is awarded.
• According to the German Qualifications Framework, the vocational school qualification is assigned to level 6.

Opportunities for further education

The Fachhochschulreife entitles the holder to study at Fachhochschulen and corresponding courses at universities.

This is a matter for the school authorities, if necessary:

• a copy of the last school report and
• possibly passport photos
• Possibly further documents depending on the school
• In the social services department, an extended certificate of good conduct in accordance with § 30 a BZRG must also be submitted.

Completed vocational training in the relevant field and

a corresponding vocational school certificate (if attendance at a vocational school was compulsory during the vocational training) and

at least one year of professional experience in the relevant training occupation.

Instead of the vocational qualification and the vocational school certificate, a relevant professional activity of at least five years can also be recognized. If you are attending the technical college on a part-time basis, you can complete the required one year of professional experience as a student while attending the technical college.

For the fields of computer science, social work and economics, proof of a secondary school leaving certificate is also required. In the field of social work, proof of completed relevant vocational training can be replaced by other final qualifications.

• Students can register for the vocational college via the Schüler Online internet portal (www.schueleranmeldung.de).
• The respective vocational college decides on the application and informs the parties involved of the decision via the internet portal and in writing.

The vocational school for social services usually lasts three years. The third year is organized in the form of a work placement.

Students who are in a vocational training relationship can also be admitted to the Fachschule if the school provides a link between the content of the Fachschule training and the initial vocational training.

Proof of relevant higher education qualifications can be credited towards attendance of the technical college course.

Technical college

• Admission to a technical college with a state qualification and the option of acquiring the advanced technical college entrance qualification
• Further vocational training in various subject areas with different specializations and focuses
• In NRW, technical colleges in the fields of agriculture, nutrition and supply management, design, IT, social work, technology and business.
