§14 Teacher Training Act NRW 2009, LABG NRW
If you would like to apply for employment in the preparatory service or teaching profession, you will need recognition of your teacher training examinations or teaching qualification if these were not completed/acquired in NRW.
With the recognition of your teaching degree or your teaching qualification from another federal state, you can apply for employment in the preparatory service or the teaching profession in North Rhine-Westphalia on an equal footing.
- officially certified copy of the Bachelor's certificate and diploma
- Overview of the Bachelor's degree program
- Officially certified copy of the Master's certificate and diploma
- Transcript of records for the Master's degree program
- officially certified copy of the certificate of the first state examination
- Performance / study overview of the first state examination
- If applicable, officially certified copy of the certificate of the (second) state examination
- If applicable, officially certified copies of extension examinations
- Copy of proof of name change, if applicable

You have completed a teacher training course in a federal state other than North Rhine-Westphalia with the degree of First State Examination or Master of Education and / or have successfully completed the preparatory service in another federal state.
Once the written application has been received by post
- the application will be checked for completeness and, if necessary, additional documents or information will be requested.
- your academic and examination achievements will be compared with the NRW requirements and classified.
- If necessary, you will be informed of the result of the assessment before the decision is issued and can comment on it.
- the certificate of recognition will be issued and sent to you.
Depending on the number of applications submitted, please allow approximately four weeks for processing.
- Recognition can be applied for at any time.
- There may be deadlines due to the fact that you need the recognition at a certain point in time (e.g. for the start of the preparatory service or
employment in the teaching profession).
- You can apply for and receive temporary recognition by e-mail to meet the deadline.
