After successfully completing your teacher training course, you must complete a preparatory service in order to qualify as a school teacher in North Rhine-Westphalia.
Information on the application procedure for the preparatory service can be found at www.sevon.nrw.de.
If your application is successful, you will be appointed as a civil servant on revocation.
The training takes place at the Center for Practical Teacher Training assigned to you and the training school also assigned to you.
The preparatory service is usually completed in 18 months and ends with the passing of the 2nd state examination for the teaching profession of your teacher training course.
Under certain conditions, it is also possible to complete the preparatory service part-time.
In order to be admitted to the preparatory service for a teaching profession in NRW, you must submit an application for admission via the internet platform www.sevon.nrw.de.
Master of Education according to the Teacher Training Act of 2009 (LABG) with one of the following teaching degrees:
- Master of Education for the
- Teaching at elementary school
- Teaching degree for Hauptschulen, Realschulen, secondary schools and comprehensive schools
- Teaching degree for grammar schools and comprehensive schools
- Teaching degree for vocational colleges
- Teaching degree for special educational support
Recognition of teaching-related university degrees obtained in other federal states also leads to these teaching qualifications.
North Rhine-Westphalia also offers participation in the preparatory service for the expiring teaching degrees listed below:
First state examination for the
- Teaching qualification for primary, lower secondary and intermediate secondary schools and the corresponding year groups of comprehensive schools
- Teaching degree at grammar schools and comprehensive schools
- Teaching profession at vocational colleges
- Teaching degree for special education
Applicants who have completed a Bachelor's/Master's degree course at the "model universities" of Bielefeld, Bochum, Dortmund, Münster and Wuppertal after the expiry of the model experiment "Staged degree courses in teacher training" will also receive a certificate of the First State Examination for the above-mentioned teaching qualifications from the State Examination Office for Teaching Qualifications at Schools.
Students who have completed or will complete their studies with one of the old teaching qualifications listed below will start the preparatory service for this teaching qualification for reasons of training law and take the second state examination for this teaching qualification:
- Teaching profession for the primary level
- Teaching degree for lower secondary level
- Teaching degree for secondary level II
- Teacher training for special education
