In order to register at a vocational college, in the upper secondary school, to start an apprenticeship or to study at a university of applied sciences, a certificate of equivalence of the school leaving certificate from another federal state with NRW law is sometimes required.

This applies to the "Erstes Schulabschluss" (formerly Hauptschulabschluss after grade 9), the "Erweiterter Ersten Schulabschluss" (formerly Hauptschulabschluss after grade 10), the "Mittleren Schulabschluss" and the "Fachhochschulreife".

The lower secondary school-leaving qualifications from other federal states are generally recognized as equivalent in NRW.

The responsibility for determining equivalence depends on the type of qualification and the federal state in which the qualification was obtained.

Please note that only the existing school-leaving qualification is recognized, i.e. no examination of the content with regard to subsequent additional qualifications and entitlements (e.g. entitlement to attend upper secondary school).

There is no responsibility for school-leaving qualifications from NRW.

Existing school-leaving qualification from another federal state

As soon as the documents are complete, they will be checked. You will then receive a notification with the result of the equivalence check.
